Hello Reader,

In today’s email, we continue our dive into the first concert of the season, exploring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Read on to learn more about this interesting work! Notes from MOSY Music Director, Wilbur Lin, on Beethoven's Symphony No. 7

Even though Beethoven was irritated by the fact that people refer to Symphony No. 7 as a companion piece to his Wellington’s Victory, the two pieces do share a musical connection beyond the fact that they were premiered in the same benefit concert (honoring the wounded veterans of the Battle of Hanau). While Beethoven did not use any military instruments in the symphony as he did in Wellington’s Victory, the dotted rhythm of the first movement, the somber march of the second, and the overwhelming elation of the final movement, all reflected the general mood of a battle-tired victor.

Scholarship Applications are now open!

Students can apply for scholarships that cover 25%, 50%, or 75% of tuition. The application deadline is October 15, 2025.
