The Firefly Music Festival kicks off this Friday with Xavier Foley, an exceptional bass soloist and composer!

Hello Reader,

We have reached the opening week of the 2025 Firefly Music Festival! I really hope to see you at the exciting first concert this Friday, June 13, at the Missouri Theatre. Read more about the truly exceptional guest artist and composer below. But while we are kicking things off this Friday, today's email is also going to tell you all about the closing concert of the festival on Saturday, June 28, "Schubert & Martinez: Pioneers of Greatness." You won't want to miss hearing Schubert's "Great" Symphony to wrap up the festival! In addition, read on to find out more about the two intimate chamber concerts taking place on June 17 and June 24 that are curated by our very own Missouri Symphony Orchestra (MSO) musicians. Here's to a summer of wonderful symphonic music!

Xavier Foley will be joining us on Friday for "Soulful New World". Not only is he a bass soloist, which is extremely rare, but he is also an accomplished composer, and I am thrilled we get the chance to hear him perform his bass concerto, Soul Bass. Get your tickets today and join me Friday for this exceptional concert featuring Xavier! Take a look at a sneak peek of him practicing his concerto in the video below.

Schubert & Martinez

Pioneers of Greatness

Marianna von Martinez, a fairly known composer of her time (and one time neighbor and friend of Joseph Haydn), is largely a forgotten name in the classical music scene until very recently. She is now recognized as among the first women to compose for the orchestra. In this concert, we will rediscover her inventive three movement suite of Overture in C major, as we pair up Schubert’s Rosamund Overture and the “Great” C major symphony, celebrating his achievements and artistry despite, at one point, also at risk of being forgotten. Both ahead of their time, the music of these two pioneers can only be described as timeless.

The Chamber Concerts during the MOSY summer music festival have become a fan favorite. These intimate concerts are fully musician programmed and led. The fantastic musicians of your Missouri Symphony Orchestra create the ensembles and plan the music. Join them for a musical treat on Tuesdays, June 17th and 24th in the Sheryl Crow Hall of the Sinquefield Music Center on the MU campus. Stick around after the concerts for receptions and get to know the musicians.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the Firefly Music Festival, starting this Friday. And if you want to help keep this amazing musical event happening, consider joining the Sparkle Club. Scroll on to learn more.

Fondly,

Trent
